Architects create designs for new construction projects, alterations and redevelopments. They use their specialist construction knowledge and high-level drawing skills to design buildings that are functional, safe, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing. The Architect is responsible for the technical leadership, development and coordination of construction documents in support of overall project design. Architects takes initiates project phases: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Bidding and Negotiation, and Construction Administration

Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Designs projects and/or review architectural or engineering plans, specifications and contract documents to ensure compliance with government codes, laws and regulations.

  2. Works with customers and Clients to gather facts, defines design and space planning problems, conceptualize possible solutions and secure approvals of proposals.

  3. Provides advice and develop shop drawings to initiate and modify architectural, interior design and space planning solutions.

  4. Creating building designs and highly detailed drawings both by hand and by using specialist computer-aided design (CAD) applications

  5. Advises Subcontractors on the interpretation of plans, recommends changes when necessary.

  6. Prepares and/or review working drawings, specifications and cost estimates related to the project.

  7. Liaising with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects Provides technical expertise in development or review of policies and procedures in relation to architectural structures and systems and construction/safety codes.

  8. Researches literature and maintain knowledge of current building materials, structural, mechanical and electrical system codes and methods of application.

  9. Reviews Subcontractor's shop drawings to ensure compliance with specifications and contract agreements by checking them for technical accuracy according to accepted guidelines.

  10. Performs design drafting including preliminary drawings, working drawings and full detail drawings for architectural, structural and mechanical works associated with building construction or improvement projects.

  11. Provides finish selections including color palettes, carpet and wall finishes, lighting and other various interior selections.

  12. Capable of developing, presenting and coordinating construction details and design solutions based on current industry trends and standards

  13. Ability to work closely with structural engineers to develop design solutions

  14. Responsible for developing building code analysis and reviews to determine building conformance to currents codes and standards

  15. Ability to coordinate effectively with architectural design team and construction management team to achieve positive results.

  16. Assist in the development of architectural and other work packages’ specifications as necessary

  17. Ability to conduct onsite construction observation to ensure compliance with detail design

Qualifications

  • Must be RIBA Part 2 Architect level (or equivalent) – i.e. 5 years academic study to masters levelWell versed with Microsoft Office tools. 

  • Working knowledge of the following software: AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, 3D Studio, Photoshop, and MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience as an Architect.
